Once familiar with the different pressure points-which only took a few seconds-3D Touch quickly became a feature I'd want on my present phone, and although it may not be a main selling point for the new iPhones, it'll likely be something that owners will utilize quite often. From within the messaging or email app, the same can be used to preview correspondence, web links, and even your calendar. From there, having a mid-pressure touch can be used to preview a photo without actually leaving the profile page. When perusing Instagram, pressing down on a user photo or name will bring up a quick preview of their profile, and pushing harder will pull up their complete profile page. 3D Touch is a whole different tool from within apps, with specialized features built into each program. From the home screen, for example, if you push on the camera icon it'll bring up additional quick launching options like going straight to the front-facing camera for a quick selfie. Utilizing pressure sensors, the phone can detect how hard you press on the screen to reveal additional contextual menus or options. 3D Touch takes the Force Touch feature present on the latest MacBook and Apple Watch to the next level, and the results are rather intuitive. ![]()
